Autism Friendly Santa!

It is that time of the year again! Christmas lights everywhere, loud, repetitive music, glitter and garland in your hair, bells jingling, and Santas bellowing everywhere!

Last year I met this amazing young man, Kerry Magro, at the Autism New Jersey Conference, and thankfully kept in touch via email and instagram. Kerry is an adult with autism, and he famously grew “from nonverbal to national speaker” and has even written a book Defining Autism From The Heart, which was an Amazon Best Seller for Special Need Parenting. Kerry has been giving back to the autism community in a plethora of ways, from scholarships for students with special needs to autism friendly Santa meet and greets. I volunteered as an elf for the Sensory Friendly Santa meet and greet last year, and am super excited to do it again this year!

This is something that is so amazing, powerful, and important for children with special needs to be a part of. I know how difficult it is to get your child to interact with others, and behave “appropriately” in social settings. With events like this, your child can be himself, and be given the space, time, and professional support to participate in the holidays, autism style!
